Its been a week on the road for RSB Steve Branagh with a trip up to Denmark to visit the rigging and hardware manufacturer BSI. He also combined this with a visit to Reckman in Hamburg, southern spars in Denmark and the Knierim Yachtbau shipyard in Kiel.
In the photos of the BSI factory you can see a number of large parts for a new build superyacht project that have been milled out of solid billets of Titanium and a few shots of parts in production.
The factory has around 40 CNC milling machines of various sizes, all capable of producing custom parts both large and small from any materials. Running alongside these are a number of older presses and lathes that are used for producing the smaller rigging parts for the production boat market. You can also see the heading press, capable of cold heading -1100 diameter rods.
It was a real pleasure to get the full tour of the factory and get to meet the shop floor team that often pull rabbits out of hats to make sure that projects remain on time and captains and owners are kept happy.
