Annex B – Compliance Services
In January 2019, the latest revision of the Red Ensign Group (REG) Large Yacht Code came into effect.
The updated REG Yacht Code includes a ‘retrospective application clause,’ meaning that certain provisions within the new regulations must be applied not just to new vessels, but also to existing yachts built before 2019.
If your vessel flies the Red Ensign flag and is certified under any previous version of the yacht code (such as LY3, PYC, etc.), the new REG Yacht Code applies to you.
1. Assessment and Pre-Inspection
- Review existing tracks, padeyes, and related documentation, including shell plate thickness drawings. Conduct an onboard visit to confirm that the installation method aligns with the provided documentation.
- Verify that the installation method is compliant, ensuring it has been properly tested, including the necessary evidence of the 9 kN dynamic and 12 kN static load tests on the test piece.
2. Fabrication and Design
If there is no available evidence for the 9 kN + 12 kN testing, RSB will fabricate a sample test piece based on the vessel’s substrate, replicating the tracks, fasteners, and rivetnut attachments.
3. Load Testing in Compliance with REG Large Yacht Code
Perform load testing on the sample test piece (12 kN static + 9 kN dynamic), with the flag surveyor present to witness the tests.
4. Sign-Off
Option 1: If the tests are successful, a compliance report will be prepared and stamped by the flag surveyor.
Option 2: If the tests fail, the existing tracks and pad-eyes should be decommissioned.
We will explore alternative installation methods and provide a solution for a new, compliant installation.
