RSB Supports Spanish Coastguard with Crane Examination Aboard SAR Mesana (BS-34)
The SAR Mesana (BS-34) is a dedicated deep-sea tug and rescue vessel operated by Spain’s Maritime Rescue and Safety Society (Sociedad de Salvamento y Seguridad Marítima). It plays a crucial role in safeguarding the Spanish coastlines in the Mediterranean and Atlantic.

RSB Rigging is proud to work with the Spanish Coastguard. They provide specialist lifting equipment survey services for the SAR Mesana. Central to its operation is the Effer telescopic knuckle boom cargo crane, engineered to Lloyd’s Register Class Rules for Lifting Appliances. This robust crane boasts a Work Load Limit (WLL) of 12,000 kg. It also extends up to 12 meters at maximum reach, offering critical lifting capabilities during rescue and logistical operations. Crane load testing is essential.

Thanks to the diligent maintenance by the SAR Mesana’s skilled crew, RSB’s thorough examination proceeded smoothly. A successful 15000kg proof load test was performed. This crane load testing is crucial for ensuring safety. The loads were measured using a calibrated 20t Smart Link load sensor by our partner, Cyclops Marine. In our opinion, they have created the best load-sensing devices available. This project underscores RSB’s commitment to supporting maritime safety operations. They maintain high standards of industrial lifting solutions, including crane load testing.
